Essence
For me leading and coaching are kindred journeys of discovery.
They are complex, paradoxical and moral relationships between people, which can cause harm between some, accompanied by benefits to others...and are based on trust, obligation, commitment, emotion and a shared vision of the good.
Therefore...ethics is central to leadership and coaching because of the nature of the process of influence, the need to engage others to accomplish mutual goals, and the impact leaders and coaches have on establishing the organisation's and individual's values (Storr 2004).
I have come to realise leaders can be a source of light for others – to be a light which can illuminate the things which can both define and obscure our true authentic self.
They can help bring all things to light so we can see more clearly, recognise, discover, rediscover, seek out and gaze more deeply as we search for our hidden potential and new levels of insight and meaning.
